The restoration of Crystal Pier has been in the works since an engineer’s report last year recommended the pier either be repaired or destroyed. The eastern portion of the pier, battered by hurricanes and storms since the mid-1990s, has deteriorated steadily since its closure in 1996, losing pilings and planks.
